Heb 12:14 “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:”
If we aren’t doing what we’ve been created to do, we’ll eventually fall apart. It’s just like using a screwdriver as a crowbar. It’ll work for a while, but pretty soon, it will break.
God is so interested in you being holy, He will chastise you to be holy.
Heb 12:9-10 “Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.”
You don’t need a list of rules from the pastor, you just need a heart for God and a desire to be holy. The Holy Ghost will lead you into doing the right thing. God will give you the ‘want to’.
In order to be like God, you must love what God loves and hate what God hates. God will help you separate from and get to. The way to get to second base is to leave first base. How do you become holy? You leave where you’re at to get to where you need to go. You can’t be holy without God’s help. You can’t do holiness, He will make us to become holy. He isn’t so much interested in what we DO as what we ARE.
II Cor 5:17 “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
It wouldn’t be hard to find a drug dealer, but to go back to that life style is impossible. You are a new creature in Christ. The old life is dead. You’re stuck being a Christian so you might as well be a fanatic about it.
There are stuff to pay and let go.
Eph 5:8-11 “For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;) Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.”
Jesus never engaged in sinful activities. When He hung out with sinners, the desire to sin was not there. It’s not isolation, it’s separation. It’s possible to sit with sinners and never sin. You are light now.
I Thes 5:5 “Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.”
In order to be a child of the light you must walk in the light. You can step out of the light. Don’t do it! It’s not about stuff that separates us. Everybody that’s in the light used to be in darkness.
I Thes 5:6 “Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.”
I Thes 5:7-8 “For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.”
Don’t say you don’t have to do anything as a Christian. There are hundreds of Scriptures that tell us to DO something. We have a call to be like God. You can’t be like God unless you do some things.
In heaven God is going to say, ‘Well done.’ But, in order for Him to say that, you have to do well. You have to actually DO some things.
I Thes 5:8 “But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.”
There is a devil and as soon as you try to do something for God, there will be opposition. So called ‘religious’ people will come against you. ‘Why do you go to church so much?’ It’s because you are pursuing God. It’s hard to see light when you are a child of the night. If you’ve been in darkness all your life, the light is tough to bear. Men love darkness rather than light because their deed are evil.
Can you get anything good from a bramble bush? No. You will know people by the fruit of their lives. ‘That fruit has worms in it!’ Somebody who is pursuing after God will give up some things. When you want to live for God, you start cleaning things out of your life. You can still walk out of the light and do deeds that the people in the dark do.
Separate from and dedicate to—that’s holiness. It’s what you do, what you think, what you say.
Even if you look on a woman and lust after her, it’s the same as committing adultery. When you are pursuing God, the whole self, even thoughts, are included. Holiness needs to be wholly holy.
I Thes 5:23 “And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
