What Is The Name?

Tower of Clavero In Salamanca, Spain by artur84Zec 14:9 “And the LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one LORD, and his name one.”

This Scripture says the name of our Lord is one. When we find out what that name is, it is the revealed and declared name of our Lord.

Gen 17:5 “Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee.”

Gen 32:28 “And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.”

That baby who lay in a manger, his name came from heaven, announced by an angel. A person may have many titles, but only one name. This is the same for our God. He has many titles, Father, God, Savior, King, Son. These titles reveal something about our God.

Is 52:6 “Therefore my people shall know my name: therefore they shall know in that day that I am he that doth speak: behold, it is I.”

Today His name is not secret. It is not hidden. It is revealed—Jesus.

Phil 2:9 “Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:”

In the Bible, names had meaning. Esau meant ‘red boy’ because his hair was red. Jacob meant ‘supplanter’ because he held onto his brother’s ankle like a supplanter.

Phil 2:11 “And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Is 45:23 “I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.”

Is 48:12 “Hearken unto me, O Jacob and Israel, my called; I am he; I am the first, I also am the last.”

Is 52:6 “Therefore my people shall know my name: therefore they shall know in that day that I am he that doth speak: behold, it is I.”

We call our God ‘Elohim’ because He has a multiplicity of attributes. (Even Moses was called Elohim because he had a multiplicity of offices.) El Shaddia is another title given to our God. He is creator, sustainer.

Jehovah comes from JHVH, this is the great and terrible name, the peculiar name, the separate name. This was unpronounceable name. This was a holy name.

Ex 6:2-3 “And God speake unto Moses, and said unto him, I [am] the Lord. And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name Jehovah was I not known to them.”

Moses got a little more revelation than the others.

Psa 83:18 “That men may know that thou, whose name alone is Jehovah, art the most high over all the earth.”

Is 12:2 “Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.”

Jehovah means ‘he that is who is’. The Lord had to be described differently after Adam sinned in the garden. He is not just an almighty God, or a provider of your needs, or a Father. God is our Salvation, our Redeemer. That is the revelation that we have today.

If we understand that the revelation of himself as Jehovah is in connection with redemption. ‘Jehovah is my Salvation’ this is the Hebrew equivalent of ‘Jesus’. This is a compound name.

This was something that was practiced even among the heathen nations, ‘Baal of the North’, etc. ‘Baal zebub’ means ‘Lord of the flies’ or the ‘Lord of nothing’.

Jehovah-shalom is the God of peace. These are titles that describe our God. Jehovah-Salvation is the name He has chosen for Himself.

God so loved the world that He became a man and sacrificed Himself. That is the way He decided to reveal Himself to us. He came in His father’s name—Jehovah-Salvation.

There are many titles in the Old Testament, but we get the name Jesus. Jesus said, ‘I am Alpha and Omega’. He is the first and the last, the A and the Z. Jesus isn’t just the Word of God, He is every letter of God.

People in Old Testament times wanted to know His name, but He never revealed it. Isaiah prophesied that His people would know His name! He name shall be One! The revelation of God will be complete when Christ reigns on earth!

Prov 30:4 “Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son’s name, if thou canst tell?”

Saul of Tarsus had such zeal for God he killed Christians. God looked down and saw that all Saul needed was a revelation of who God is. God spoke to him on the road to Damascus. His name was changed to Paul. He was blinded by the light of heaven.

‘Saul, Saul, why are you messing with Me?’

Uh oh! He better find out who this is. He said, ‘okay, supreme Lord, who art thou, Lord.’

The voice didn’t say, ‘I am Jehovah or we are Jehovah.’ Oh no, He said, ‘I AM JESUS!’

Paul got the revelation of the name of Jesus.

Peter said, ‘Get baptized in the name of Jesus.’

It got so bad, the Sanhedrin pulled them in and told them to stop preaching in the name. Peter who denied Christ at one point, had the revelation and asked, ‘Who should we obey, you or God?’ God told Peter to preach in His NAME.

They preached the name of Jesus everywhere they went. With that revelation came power and confidence in God. There is nothing greater than the God we serve’s Name!

Phil 2—God gave Him a name that is above every name. Jesus is the one supreme name of God. We are in that day. The name of God will be revealed to the entire world. We know it already—Jesus!

The devils believe in one God and tremble. When you come in the name of Jesus, you come in His authority.

Prov 18:10 “The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.”

Prayers are answered in the name of Jesus.

2 Chron 7:14 ‘If my people who are called by my name…’

We get the family name. We’re the Jesus family. We’ve got the name.

Healing comes with the name, prayers answered, salvation, etc. The name is important. That revelation has got to be the center of everything we are and do. No authority can come against that name. Cancer cannot win against the name!
