The Purpose of Life

Mat 22:37-40 “Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”

Mark 16:15 “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.”

Prov 29:18 “Where there is no vision, the people perish…”

When you get ahold of what the purpose of life is all about, you will not wander astray. You must have purpose in your life.

Hab 2:2 “And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.”

You need vision in your life. Jesus gave us that through His ‘great commandment’. This is the great commandment in life: to LOVE GOD. That’s it! That’s why you exist. If you don’t get the first commandment, you can’t fulfill the second. If you love God you will love people. The great commission comes from those two—to take that love to the world. Spread that passion that Jesus put in you.

We are not here for any other reason. Church is not a social club or support group. The agenda is not: go get our name known in the community. Those may be by-products, but every fiber in our being needs to be to love God and preach the gospel. We’re not here for any other reason. Jesus’ agenda was to seek and save that which was lost.

Phil 2:7-8 “But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.”

Jesus made himself of no reputation. We don’t care if the community hears about any particular church. We want the community to know Jesus.

The purpose of the church is to connect people with loving God, to Serve People, and to spread the Passion of His Kingdom.

If you don’t have a love for God, I worry for your soul. If you don’t have a love for God, nothing else will fall into place. Some are seeking the wrong thing. Some are after money. You do the things so you have money, nice cars, a big house, and/or beautiful clothes. The Bible says, ‘Seek ye first the kingdom of God and all these things shall be added unto you.’ They are by-products. We are commanded to love God.

That’s kind of weird that we are commanded to love God. However, when you really consider it, love is something you do, not just feel. It’s not only an emotion. It’s something you choose to do.
