Wimps, Wannabes, Whiners, & Winners Part 1

Who wants to be a wimp? I know I don’t. Pastor LoCascio recently preached about wimps, wannabes, whiners, and what it takes to be a winner.

John the Baptizer wasn’t a wimp. He didn’t care what other people thought of him. He simply obeyed ‘thus saith the Lord.’ That was his whole life. Rev. Tenney said, ‘Instead of worrying about what other people think of you, worry about what other people think of Jesus because of you.’

A wimp is like stony ground. Wimps have no root. They quit. They hide in the crowd. But, we have a God of infinite resources. We don’t need to be cowards. Even when we are not able, God is.

Jesus met a guy who was the ‘rich, young ruler’. He called the kid a wimp. Anybody can be rich and look good and have power, but it takes someone who’s not afraid of sacrifice to be Jesus’ disciple. Jesus doesn’t want wimps.

David, when he visited his brothers to take provisions to them during one of the wars with the Philistines, called them wimps. His brothers hid in the bushes from Goliath.

Why was little David able to get the victory over Goliath? In Daniel 11:32 it says, “…but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.”

The experiences you have with God no one can take away. Those times in the prayer room are yours forever. You become stronger when you have experiences with God. You get to ‘know your God’ and you realize that even if you can’t take this, He can.

The answer to stony ground is prayer. Your prayer life will sustain you in all life’s pressures.

Don’t just go on auto-pilot when you pray. Don’t just talk at God, talk to Him. Don’t just give Him your grocery list of requests, seek His face. When you pray the Lord’s prayer, take each section and personalize it.

Our Father, He’s your Daddy who loves you. Think about that.

Who art in heaven, instead of trying to pull God down to you, you are invited up to talk to Him in His throne room. See things from a heavenly perspective rather than an earthly one.

Hallowed be Thy Name, His Name is holy. Take this time to think about just Who God is, pure, loving, kind. He is also judge and ruler of all creation. He is all-powerful, almighty. He is all present. You can’t get away from Him. He is all-knowing. He knows your past, your present, and your future.

Thy kingdom come, It’s His kingdom, not mine. He has invited you to be a part of His kingdom. Will you further His kingdom or hinder it?

Thy will be done, Again, not my will, but Thy will.

In earth as it is in heaven. You are an earthen vessel. Let His will be done in you, in your life, in your situation. Not the way you think things should be, but the way Jesus wants them to be, so that you can grow and become more like Him.

Give us this day our daily bread, Thank the Lord for His provision. He has blessed you in so many ways. Exercise some faith and thank Him for the things that you need but don’t have yet.

And forgive us of our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. We’ve got to forgive, not just for the one who did us wrong, but for our own soul’s sake. Bitterness is a destroyer of souls. Don’t let it take root even a little. Thank the Lord for His forgiveness as well.

Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. The Lord is our protector. He sees the danger and He provides a way out. He sees our temptation and He provides a way out. Seek Him in all things throughout your day and you will find rest for your souls, no more stress.

For Thine is the kingdom, It’s His kingdom and He is absolute ruler over it. He has invited you to be a part of it.

And the power, He is all-powerful. He can handle absolutely anything.

And the glory, He deserves all the glory, not anyone or anything else. Everything that I am, everything that I have He can do better. It’s all because of Him. In Him we live and move and have our being.

Forever and ever. Amen. He is alpha and omega, the beginning and the ending. He always has been and He always will be. In a world that changes every second, He remains the same. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. ‘Amen’ means let it be so. Let it be so in your life. Let your faith take a hold of this truth and trust the Lord. Don’t worry about what you have no control over. Just trust Him and follow Him and walk with Him and you will be blessed.
